Objective:

The objective of the NAMA is to improve public transport in Costa Rica.

Activities: (Error: Invalid time.
The first phase of the development of the NAMA was part of UNDP's LEDS project, which assisted the Ministry of Transport to understand the potential mitigation measures that will allow reductions of fuel requirements for transport units, considering technologies available, energy sources, and other selected co-benefits.

On metrics, it has been agreed that the LECB will support MINAE in carrying out a study to update vehicle fleet data. On mitigation actions, the LECB team has completed its first two reports, which provide a stakeholder analysis of the sector as well as the most appropriate sectoral mitigation actions.

This NAMA will also build on the project, funded by the IDB and GEF, on Urban Mobility in the region of San Jose. Within the framework of this project, a baseline study for estimating GHG emissions in the urban transport sector was concluded, options for mitigation actions in the urban transport sector for the greater metropolitan area of San Jose (GAM) were identified and a Sustainable Urban Transport Plan for San Jose is under development.
